As the 70th annual Toys for Tots campaign gets underway across the country, a host of events around York County aim to kick-start the gift-giving for needy children.

The organization, which collects new, unwrapped toys at nearly 300 locations throughout York County, will accept items through Dec. 20.

Last year, the York Local Community Organization provided more than 32,000 toys from more than 60 community groups and civic organizations in York County, according to a news release.

Starting the week of Nov. 12, several holiday-themed community events will take place in conjunction with Toys for Tots. The events include:

  • Holiday Tree Lighting at Springettsbury Township Park: 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.
  • Christmas in Loganville at Brown's Orchards Farm Market: Saturday, Nov. 18.
  • Christmas Magic at Rocky Ridge Park: A toy donation nabs buy one, get one free ticket admission as the attraction opens on Friday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Nov. 25.
  • Holiday Tree Lighting in Spring Grove: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30.
  • Light Up York at Continental Square: Noon-7 p.m. Dec. 2.
  • Screening of "The Polar Express" at The Pullo Center: 4 p.m. Dec. 2. Attendants encouraged to bring a toy donation.
  • "Santa D. Livin' on the Bridge" presented by 96.1 WSOX on the Veterans Memorial Bridge: Dec. 11-15.
  • Basket Bingo at Emigsville Fire Hall: Saturday, Dec. 17. Tickets: $5 in advance, $15 at door. Call 717-309-3035 for tickets.
