Three months after his suspension, the Wrightsville Borough Council voted to remove the police chief.

The council unanimously voted during its meeting Monday, Nov. 6, to remove Chief Ron Hege.

However, it's still unclear why Hege was suspended and ultimately removed.

Mayor Michael Albert suspended Hege in August and said following Monday's meeting that he is still unable to discuss why Hege was removed.

He said that's because Hege has a right to a hearing regarding his removal, if the former chief chooses to do so.

Following the previous two meetings, Albert has been unable to comment on why Hege was suspended.

Albert said he suspended Hege in August with pay, and then pay was removed in October. Hege was not present during Monday's meeting.

Future:  Solicitor Sean Fields said the borough has five days to present Hege with the decision, and under borough code, Hege has 10 days from that date to request a hearing.

According to meeting minutes, Hege had been chief since October 2012.

Officer Adam Schaum, the department's most senior officer, has been acting chief since Hege's suspension in August.

Albert said it is too early to tell what the borough will do with the future of Hege's position. He did say for now, Schaum will remain acting chief.

"(Schaum's) doing a great job, and I have the utmost confidence in him," Albert added.

The Wrightsville Police Department is currently made up of three full-time officers and three part-time officers, according to the mayor.

One full-time officer put in his resignation letter, which was approved during Monday's meeting, but he still has two more weeks left.

The next borough council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the borough building at 601 Water St.
