A York City man and "known narcotics dealer" behind bars on drug charges is now accused in the fentanyl overdose death of a Springettsbury Township man.

Police say Jose Miguel Morales III, 34, gave Derek Mount, 28, the drugs that ended up killing him.

Morales, of the 1000 block of East Polar Street, faces charges of drug delivery resulting in death, criminal use of a communication facility, involuntary manslaughter and possession with intent to deliver.

Death: Springettsbury Township Police responded to Mount's Springettsbury home about 5:15 a.m. March 18 and found Mount dead.

On him they found yellow glasine baggies, commonly use to package heroin, according to police.

The York County Coroner's Office found in April that Mount's death was caused by fentanyl toxicity.

Investigation: Mount's family told police that he would often hang out with "Julio," later identified as Morales, according to police.

Police looked up Julio on Facebook and knew him to be Morales, known by his street name as "King Chance," court documents allege.

A friend of Mount's dropped Mount off at a home in the 600 block of King Street the day before his death, and, according to police, Mount appeared to be on narcotics when he returned to his friend's car.

Police say Morales and his girlfriend lived in that home at the time.

In August, Morales was sent to York County Prison on drug charges, and police spoke with him at the prison.

While there, he admitted to using heroin and fentanyl with Mount, and that they were friends, documents state. Morales also admitted to selling him heroin and fentanyl in the past, according to police.

He also admitted to changing his phone number after Mount's death, so he wouldn't be connected to the death, documents state.

Police searched through text messages between Morales and Mount that showed the two talking about fentanyl, and that the conversation was consistent with someone involved in drug-dealing, according to police.

Charges were filed Oct. 4, and, as of Friday, he had not been arraigned on them.

Morales was charged in late August with possession with intent to deliver. He remains in York County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail in that case.
