Organizers are preparing to hold a second memorial for a Dover Township boy killed on Sept. 21 to honor him and his love of cars.

Matthew Gowen’s Ride Home will take place Saturday, Sept. 30, at Veterans Memorial Park in York City, according to a news release.

The event is expected to bring more than 500 car enthusiasts and their vehicles.

At a vigil Sunday night at Dover Community Park, several cars burned out their tires.

Matthew, a 13-year-old student at Dover Intermediate School, was killed in a vehicle accident in the evening hours of Thursday, Sept. 21, according to police.

Friends of Matthew, including Dover Intermediate student Bella Crawford, 13, said he loved cars and seeing car burn-outs in particular.

Participants are asked to meet at 11 a.m. Saturday before heading toward Matthew’s viewing at Fourth United Methodist Church, 1087 E. Market St. in York, about 11:45 a.m.

After stopping at the viewing location, participants will head to the site of last Thursday’s crash on South Salem Church Road before heading out to Salem Union Church Cemetery on West Canal Road in Dover Township, according to the release.

Dover Area School District announced support services would continue this week at district schools for students and staff.

In addition, Matthew's family has established a memorial fund, according to the Dover Area School District website.

Donations to the Matthew Gowen Memorial Fund can be made at any PeoplesBank location, according to the post on the district’s website.
