Southwestern Police: 6-year-old's injuries not considered life-threatening
A 6-year-old was run over by a vehicle at the Spring Grove Soccer Complex in North Codorus Township on Friday, Sept. 22, according to a release from the Southwestern Regional Police Department.
Witnesses at the scene told police that the child's ball rolled into the path of a moving vehicle, and the child was struck by the vehicle — a Dodge Ram truck — when trying to retrieve it.
Officers were dispatched the location, 5689 York Road, at 6:32 p.m.
According to Southwestern Regional Police Chief Gregory Bean, one of the vehicle tires rolled over the child, who was then airlifted to Hershey Medical Center with serious injuries.
There were no other injuries.
A family member told Bean on Saturday morning that after a long night of treatment, the child was stabilized and the injuries are not life-threatening.
Police are not releasing the name of the child or the driver while the incident is under investigation.
Officers talked to about half a dozen witnesses on the scene, Bean said. The parking lot was full because of children’s events on the field at the sports complex that night.
Southwestern Regional Police ask that witnesses of the incident call police at 717-225-1333 as they continue to investigate.
