Police: Man, drunk, naked, runs through Shrewsbury Twp. yard
A Shrewsbury Township man witnessed a naked and drunk Maryland man answer nature's call on his front lawn last weekend, according to police.
State police say Nathaniel John Fitzpatrick was later found driving his car with only a blanket on, an open beer in the driver's side door compartment.
Fitzpatrick, 33, of Freeland, Maryland, is charged with DUI, indecent exposure, resisting arrest, loitering and disorderly conduct.
Ran through yard: State police received a report of a man running naked through a yard in the 3700 block of Ruhl Road about 1:30 a.m. July 23.
The caller said the man ran through his front yard then got into a black pickup truck and fled the scene, according to police.
The resident later told police he saw Fitzpatrick defecate and vomit in his front yard before fleeing in the truck, court documents state.
Arrest: A trooper heading to the scene in the area of Route 851 at Bowser Road saw a vehicle matching the truck's description, police said.
The trooper tried to pull over the vehicle on Main Street at Front Street, but the vehicle didn't stop and continued to travel to the PeoplesBank past Poplar Alley, charging documents state.
The vehicle stopped, and the trooper "immediately smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from Fitzpatrick, police said.
Inside the car, Fitzpatrick was not clothed but had a blanket covering his body, according to charging documents. He was asked to get out of the car, but he was "delayed" in his response, and police said there were additional signs of impairment.
When the trooper tried taking Fitzpatrick into custody, he pulled away and tried to flee, police said. The trooper had to use force to place Fitzpatrick into custody, charging documents state.
While in custody, Fitzpatrick gave a preliminary breath test, which showed the presence of alcohol, police said. While searching the vehicle, court documents state there was an open beer bottle in the driver's side door compartment.
He was then taken to York Hospital because of his "high level of intoxication," but he refused to give a blood sample, court documents allege. He was then taken to central booking for arraignment.
Fitzpatrick was arraigned on the charges and remains free after posting $10,000 bail.
A phone number listed for him was disconnected when called, and he does not have an attorney listed.
