Police: Boat left in Windsor road after hit-and-run crash

Emergency personnel ran into an unusual sight late Wednesday night.

Police say the driver in a hit-and-run crash left a boat in the middle of a Windsor street. The boat, police said, was detached from its trailer.

York Area Regional Police Chief Tim Damon called it a first for the department.

Damon said the truck that was carrying the boat struck a parked car on Main Street in Windsor borough. Police responded to the crash shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, and police say the truck carrying the boat had fled the scene.

The truck that was hauling the boat was found in another borough, and police said the driver was not in the truck when it was found.

The investigating officer is waiting to hear from the truck's driver to determine what happened Wednesday night and why the driver would leave the boat in the road, police said.

Damon said police expect to file several traffic violations against the driver.

The boat  will remain impounded until police complete their investigation.
