Construction on the Route 921 bridge, which spans Locust Run in Conewago Township, began Monday, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Construction on the bridge, also known as the East Canal Road bridge, will be complete in late September, PennDOT said.

During that time, drivers will be directed through a detour along Greenbriar Road, Route 238, and Lewisberry Road. The road closed to traffic 7 a.m. Monday.

The bridge is part of PennDOT's Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacing the bridge will remove it from the county's structurally deficient bridge list.
