Lower Windsor suspect wanted in triple homicide commits suicide
The suspect in two separate Lower Windsor Township sex assaults of children who was wanted in a triple homicide in Alabama committed suicide Wednesday, according to authorities.
Kenneth Dion Lever, 52, whose address in 2015 was listed online as Milton, Florida, was wanted in the homicide deaths of three people Wednesday morning in Gardendale, Alabama.
According to a post on the Gardendale Police Department's Facebook page, Lever committed suicide.
Alabama: According to a report from AL.com, three people were shot in the 4100 block of Willow Ben Drive in the Peach Tree community just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The department said Dana Reeves Lever, 50, of Gardendale, and Bonnie Reeves Foshee, 65, and Don Austin Foshee, 69, both of Fultondale, were killed Wednesday.
AL.com reports that Dana Reeves Lever was Lever's ex-wife, and the other two were her sister and brother-in-law.
A sheriff's spokesman in Escambia County, Florida, said Lever killed himself Wednesday afternoon after deputies spotted him in a parking lot, according to a report The Associated Press.
The spokesman said that Lever got out of a car and took his own life, but it was not immediately clear how.
At 10 a.m., the department posted on its Facebook page urging the Peach Tree community to shelter in place. About an hour later, the order was lifted.
The department identified Lever as the suspect and said he left the area in a red 2017 Nissan Sentra.
A judge ordered Lever in December to stay away from his ex-wife and their juvenile daughter, according to a report from The Associated Press. The ex-wife claimed Lever was stalking and harassing them.
Local charges: Lever was charged in two separate cases out of Lower Windsor Township in late 2015.
According to online court records, Lever was charged on Sept. 28, 2015, with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault of a person younger than 13, corruption of minors and disseminating explicit sexual material to a minor.
The victim, a 5-year-old girl at the time, told police that in June 2005, Lever, her neighbor, molested her, documents state.
She told police that she was molested in Lever's Lower Windsor Township home in the basement den area and in the upstairs rooms of the home, police said.
The assaults continued until August 2010, when Lever moved to Florida, documents state.
Additionally, police say Lever made the girl watch pornographic movies and then had her re-enact what she saw in them.
On Oct. 12, 2015, he was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault of a person younger than 13 and disseminating explicit sexual material to a minor. His charge of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child with dismissed.
In that case, a different victim, 6 years old at the time, reported that in June 2005, Lever assaulted her, police said.
The victim stated that the assaults occurred in the basement of a home and a pool in West Manchester Township, police said.
That victim also told police that Lever made her watch pornographic movies and re-enact them, court documents state.
Charging documents state that those assaults occurred over a five-year period until Lever moved.
In both cases, bail was set for $100,000. Online court records indicate he was in York County Prison for a day before posting bail. The attorney representing him in those cases did not immediately return a message seeking comment Wednesday.
Lower Windsor Township Police Chief Tim Caldwell said Lever still owns property in the township.
Online court records indicate Lever was expected to go to trial in September in both local cases.
