York City homicide prompts gun arrests
The Tuesday afternoon homicide of Elizabeth Grisel Vega-Tirado, 48, prompted five gun arrests this week, according to York City Police.
Police said recent robberies prompted actions that were planned before the homicide. After the shooting death of Vega-Tirado, more details were planned and followed through, according to a release from the department.
Three juveniles were arrested on gun possession charges because of the operations, police said.
A police operation done Wednesday also resulted in two more people being arrested for drug possession, according to police.
Homicide: Vega-Tirado was discovered lying on the street in the 600 block of West Princess Street at 3:40 p.m. with a gunshot wound, police said.
She was transported to York Hospital and was pronounced dead at 6:31 p.m. in the Trauma Surgical ICU, according to the York County Coroner's Office. An autopsy conducted Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown determined Vega-Tirado's death was caused by a gunshot wound to the head, with the manner homicide.
York City Police Chief Wes Kahley said it doesn't appear Vega-Tirado was the shooter's target.
"It appears she was an innocent victim who just left the corner store and was caught in some crossfire," he wrote in a text.
