Sinkhole closes bridge in Fawn Twp.
A bridge in southern York County was closed Wednesday after an inspector found a sinkhole near it, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The bridge that carries New Park Road over a tributary to Alum Creek in Fawn Township was closed at about 3:30 p.m., PennDOT said.
A bridge inspector discovered the sinkhole on a roadway approach to the bridge. The sinkhole is about 5 to 6 inches in diameter and up to 44 inches deep, according to PennDOT.
A portion of the surrounding asphalt pavement measuring 4 feet by 4 feet looks to have subsided between 1 and 2 inches, PennDOT said.
The bridge was closed as a safety precaution until repairs can be made on the roadway.
