A Lewisberry man died after he struck a deer with his motorcycle last week, according to police.

Fairview Township Police said John Waite, 57, was leaving for work about 6 a.m. June 12 when he struck a deer in the 900 block of Siddonsburg Road.

Police said Waite was taken to Holy Spirit Hospital by a personal vehicle, and the Cumberland County coroner pronounced him dead from his injuries Sunday.

Lt. Davis Holland said police were notified when a motorist drove by the area and saw the motorcycle and a deer carcass on the side of the road.

“We were notified by a passer-by about three hours after the crash," he said.

Waite was not wearing a helmet during the crash.
