PA Leadership Council holds annual canoe race
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation Pennsylvania Student Leadership Council hosted its Second Annual Canoe Classic race Saturday on the Susquehanna River.
Starting near the shore along Long Level in Lower Chanceford Township, the students paddled their canoes in a 2/10ths of a mile race for medals and bragging rights while under the watchful eye of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Lake Clarke Rescue. The names of the champions, Abby Hebenton, 17, and John Whitcomb, 15, from Fairfield High School, will be added to the Canoe Classic Trophy.
The Student Leadership Council is open to any high school students in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Their mission is to expand knowledge on bay issues, improve planning skills, focus on team building and learn how to lead others to take action to improve water quality in their local communities. Students interested in joining the council can visit www.cbf.org for more information.
