Scheduled bridge demolition will divert Interstate 83 traffic overnight, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

The contractor rebuilding the Union Deposit Road bridge over I-83 in Dauphin County plans to divert traffic through the off-ramps and back onto the on-ramps during the demolition, the release states.

Between midnight and 5 a.m. May 7 and May 9, motorists will be diverted from passing under the bridge by taking the I-83 off-ramp, crossing Union Deposit Road, and going back onto I-83 using the on-ramp, PennDOT said.

Traffic signals at the top of each ramp will be on flash, and a flagger will be there to help direct traffic.

The traffic pattern will allow the contractor to conduct the demolition safely, without concern for debris falling onto traffic below, according to the release.
