Visiting Angels hosting lip-sync competition to help cure Alzheimer's
Assisted-living company Visiting Angels of York is hoping locals can lip sync toward a cure for Alzheimer's disease during several events this year.
The first Sing for a Cure lip-sync competition will raise money for the 2017 Walk Against Alzheimer's in York on Sunday, Aug. 13, at SpiriTrust Lutheran’s The Village at Sprenkle Drive.
“We’re asking people to grab a group of friends or co-workers or just perform yourself and bring some fun and laughter into people’s lives for the day,” said Sue Heinle, CEO of Visiting Angels of York, Hanover and Lancaster.
There is a $25 registration fee to participate in the lip sync-off. All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association.
“Our feeling is you need to go big or go home," said Sandy Sferrella-Taylor, public relations manager for Visiting Angels. She said the local branches got the idea from a Visiting Angels facility in Utah that created a lip-sync competition with great success.
Sferrella-Taylor said many clients of Visiting Angels suffer from dementia and Alzheimer's, and the organization hopes to contribute in any way it can.
"We’re very passionate about the Alzheimer's Association and raising the money to hopefully find a cure," she said.
The three winners from each competition will battle for the grand title before the start of the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's in York on Saturday, Oct. 7. Participants of the lip-sync competition do not need to participate in the walk.
