The York County high school musical theater showcase Encore has announced plans for the 2017 ceremony.

The showcase, which will include performances, awards and scholarship presentations, will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Central York High School.

Over 500 student actors, dancers, musicians and stagehands from 14 schools across the county will take part in the event.

“It’s a really exciting event,” said Lyn Bergdoll, executive director of the Belmont Theatre and an organizer of the event. “It’s so inspiring to see these students put so much work into these shows.”

Students from each participating school will perform a number from a musical during the showcase. The students will compete in eight award categories, with the winners determined by a panel of theater industry judges.

“It’s a sharing of the tremendous achievements of all of these students,” Bergdoll said. She said many students have told her that the showcase is their favorite day of the year.

Several $1,000 scholarships will be awarded at the event, as well as one $2,000 scholarship.

Bryan Tate, vice president and chief development officer of the York County Community Foundation, will serve as the event’s master of ceremonies and will open the show with, unsurprisingly, a song.

Tickets are $15 and are known to generally sell out before the show date. However, they are available by phone at 1-866-967-8167 or online at www.yorkencoreawards.com.
