Schools, JCC locked down during police search

  • A robbery in Springettsbury Township locked down two schools and the JCC on Thursday, police said.

York Suburban High School, Valley View Elementary and the York Jewish Community Center were locked down Thursday while police searched for a bank robbery suspect.

Spingettsbury Township Police say a man wearing a red sweatshirt and dark pants entered the Members 1st Federal Credit Union at 2420 Mount Rose Ave. about 2 p.m. and demanded money.

Springettsbury Township Police said this man robbed the Members 1st Federal Credit Union on Mount Rose Avenue on April 6, 2017, spurring an hourslong manhunt.

No weapon was displayed, and he left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Neighboring police departments helped search for the man, but they were unable to find him.

The schools and JCC went on lockdown a little after 3 p.m. while officials searched for the suspect. The lockdowns were lifted about 3:30 pm.

Police searched the area for hours in the rain, but were unable to find the robber.
