A shooting sent a York City man to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, according to a release from York City Police.

Shannon Lamont Hopkins, 48, of York, was taken by private vehicle to Memorial Hospital after he was shot in the left side of the torso, police said.  The shooting was reported in the 900 block of East Princess Street at 3:10 p.m.

Hopkins' wound is described as not life-threatening.

After investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for 23-year-old James Carlos Rodriguez Jr., of York, according to the release. Once arrested, Rodriguez will be charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Shortly after the reported shooting, officers could be seen in the area investigating. The road was blocked from the intersections of Warren Street and Frederick Court. Police cleared the area around 4 p.m.

Those with information on the incident are asked to call York City Police at 717-846-1234, or text tips to 847-411.

According to the release. several specific details were completed hours after the incident because of the Group Violence Initiative (GVI).

The message of "guns bring police" and "shootings bring police" is consistent with the GVI overall, in that police encourage anyone involved in gun violence to cease activity and it is preferred that they are safe and out of prison, police said in the release.
