A Mechanicsburg man allegedly gave an officer $50 instead of his license when the man was found drunk, exposed and sleeping in his Jeep earlier this week, according to police.

Travis Michael Norton, 37, of 2012 Sheepford Road, is charged with DUI, open lewdness and indecent exposure, among other charges, charging documents state.

Fairview Township Police say Norton was found in his vehicle outside the Rutter's at 368 Lewisberry Road about 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Allegations: Norton's car was running and its lights were on when police found him, documents state.

"The male had his pants partially pulled down with his genitals exposed out in plain view to the public," the responding officer wrote in the affidavit of probable cause.

The responding officer woke Norton up and started speaking to him, documents state. Police say Norton had bloodshot eyes and slow, slurred speech, and the officer could smell an "odor of alcohol" on him.

When the officer asked for Norton's ID, he gave the officer a $50 bill, saying that was his license, documents state. Police say Norton had driven to the area from New Cumberland.

Norton was asked to complete field sobriety tests, during which he stumbled several times, police said. He could not complete coordination tests because of how intoxicated he was, documents state.

Norton was placed under arrest, and he refused to consent to a blood draw, police said. Even after the officer obtained a warrant for the blood draw, Norton still refused, documents state.

Norton was arraigned on the charges Monday morning, and he was remanded to York County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail and remained there Friday, according to online court records. An attorney for Norton is not listed.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. March 20 at District Judge Scott J. Gross' office.
