The National Weather Service says the York area could be hit by dangerous snow squalls Friday afternoon.

According to the weather service, at 2:24 p.m. a dangerous snow squall was north of York County moving south at 30 mph. Scattered heavy snow showers could move through the area starting at around 3:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service urged motorists to use caution when traveling. Rapid visibility changes and potential slick roads are likely to lead to accidents, according to the weather service.

In late January, a 50-car pileup happened during a snow squall. A truck driver was killed in the pileup.
