Windsor Twp. woman killed in York Twp. crash

A woman was killed in crash in York Township Friday morning.

The crash occurred at around 8:15 a.m. at 3666 Cape Horn Road, according to the York County 911 Center. Police were dispatched to the scene at 8:29 a.m., according to York Area Regional Police Cpl. Ray Krzywulak.

Police have identified the woman as 63-year-old Karen S. Warner, of Windsor Township.

Warner was heading southbound on Cape Horn Road when she lost control, momentarily crossing into the northbound lane and striking a rock pile, according to a news release. Warner then struck a pine tree, a three-line utility pole, two mailboxes and subsequently crashed into the bedroom of the York Township residence, according to the release.

Warner was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, Krzywulak confirmed. Warner died of multiple blunt force trauma, according to a release by the York County Coroner's office.

The damage to the SUV, a 2015 Chevy Traverse, is described as “a complete loss” and structural damage to the home is “severe,” making the home “uninhabitable,” according to Krzywulak.

Two people were in the home at the time of the crash and were not injured. Krzywulak said the residents would need to receive assistance.

The York chapter of the Red Cross is assisting the two residents affected by the crash. "We have volunteers out there to see to the immediate needs of these individuals at this difficult time," said Allen White, Disaster Program Specialist at the Red Cross.

On Saturday morning, police tape could be seen around the front of the home. "No Trespassing" signs had been placed on the front and sides of the home.

It is still unclear if the driver had a medical emergency during the incident, police said.

Deputy York County Coroner Jeffri Goodfellow reported to the scene to certify the death, according to a release by the coroner's office.
