A Southwestern Regional Police officer and another driver escaped serious injury Monday night when their vehicles collided in Spring Grove, police said.

It happened about 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street (Route 116) and Sprenkle Road, where the Hardee's is located, according to Southwestern Regional Chief Greg Bean.

The intersection is partially in Spring Grove and partially in Jackson Township, so officers from Northern York County Regional Police responded as well, he said.

Officer Stu Harrison was driving a police cruiser, Bean said, and was treated at York Hospital for minor injuries before being released.

The other driver didn't immediately go to a hospital from the scene, he said.

"Because it's one of our cruisers and it's, I'd say, a substantial crash, we always ask another agency to take a look at it for us," Bean said, adding Northern Regional has agreed to investigate and prepare the crash report.

Northern Regional Police Lt. David Lash confirmed his department is handling the incident.

"Events precipitating the crash, as well as the crash itself, remain under investigation," Lash said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Northern Regional Police at 717-292-3647 or leave a tip online at nycrpd.org.
