Ex-politician disputes charges that he groped 103-year-old
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — A former Pennsylvania politician is denying charges that he molested a 103-year-old nursing home resident and says he was just showing affection to a woman he knows.
William Spingler spoke to The Philadelphia Inquirer regarding the case despite his defense attorney’s objections.
Spingler, who served as commissioner of both Radnor Township and Delaware County, has been charged with three counts of indecent assault on a person with a mental disability.
The 75-year-old disputed the charges in his first public remarks since his arrest last month, saying that he respects and loves his mother-in-law.
Spingler says that he frequently hugged and kissed the woman, who has dementia, during his near-daily visits at Wayne Nursing Home.
Police say nursing home employees reported witnessing Spingler grope the woman on three separate occasions.
