WGAL returns to DirecTV after agreement
NBC affiliate WGAL, channel 8, is reporting that the channel is now available to DirecTV customers.
The news of the channel's return was posted early Saturday morning.
Brandy Bell-Truskey, spokeswoman for DirecTV parent AT&T, said in an email Saturday morning that a carrier agreement was reached between WGAL and Hearst Television, WGAL's parent company.
A representative from WGAL could not be reached for comment.
No channel: DirecTV customers were without the channel for nearly a week.
The channel could not be watched through DirecTV after the two sides failed to reach a new carrier agreement before the new year. A carrier agreement gives a company the right to transmit — or carry — a broadcaster's signal.
DirecTV's former agreement with Hearst Television expired Dec. 31, according to a news release from the NBC station.
Viewers were still able to receive the station from other satellite providers and cable TV companies or with an antenna during the time off.
