A York Township man escaped life-threatening injuries Tuesday when he was robbed and stabbed in York City, police said.

Jesse Conway, 24, was stabbed in the torso and left leg during the 3:22 p.m. attack in the first block of North Hartley Street, according to Lt. Troy Bankert, who supervises York City's detective bureau.

Conway was jumped by two or three young men in the block and was robbed of $75 and a Louis Vuitton belt, the lieutenant said.

"Although he was a victim of a robbery, he did not want police to investigate it," Bankert said.

Detectives began investigating after Conway showed up at York Hospital for treatment of his stab wounds, according to Bankert.

Evidence discovered so far leads detectives to believe Conway had been targeted, the lieutenant said.

Officers were given only vague physical descriptions of the robbers, Bankert said.
