PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police say a homeowner who was wounded by two armed intruders returned fire and killed one of the suspects.

Investigators were continuing to look for the second suspect early Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says the 27-year-old homeowner was shot in the mouth and leg before he shot one of the intruders in the head about 11 p.m. Monday at the home in the city’s Frankford section.

Four children, all 4 years old or younger, were in the home along with their mother, but none of them were harmed. Police say the homeowner and the intruders fired 11 shots in all.

The name of the homeowner and the dead intruder haven’t been released.

Police say the homeowner was in serious condition at Hahnemann University Hospital.
