Police: Naked, bleeding assault victim ran for help
A York-area man is locked up, accused of badly beating a woman for no apparent reason except that he'd been drinking, according to police.
Rudolph Darrnell Edwards, 46, is in York County Prison on $25,000 bail, charged with felony aggravated assault.
York City Police say the woman was transported by White Rose Ambulance to York Hospital.
Officers were called to the first block of North Belvidere Street about 9:25 p.m. Dec. 26 by a neighbor of the woman, who found the woman on the neighbor's porch steps, naked and bleeding severely from her face, according to charging documents.
The woman told officers Edwards was drunk when he came to her home in the 700 block of West Philadelphia Street about 9 p.m. after he was kicked out of the Hartley Street residence where he'd been living, documents state.
He got inside her home and attacked her, police allege.
Broken ribs? Edwards hit her multiple times in the face and on her body, and she told officers she believed he'd broken some of her ribs, according to documents, which indicate officers didn't doubt her suspicion.
"It was evident she had difficulty breathing and speaking while giving her statement to me," Officer Don Davis wrote in charging documents.
A cut above her left eye was bleeding severely, the left side of her face was swollen and she was in a weakened state, police said.
"(She) stated there was no argument or reason why, except when he drinks he has violent tendencies," Davis wrote.
"That's him": As officers were speaking with the woman, she spotted Edwards walking through the area and yelled, "That's him," police said.
Edwards seemed heavily intoxicated, and officers could barely make out what he was saying to them as they arrested him, documents state.
He also was charged with simple marijuana possession after officers found some pot in the pocket of his jeans, documents state.
It is unclear if Edwards has retained an attorney.
