Police: Pair of robbers gave victim concussion
Two men remain in York County Prison after police say they gave a man a concussion while they were robbing him last week.
Mekhi Davila, 18, of 724 W. Locust St., York City, and Kevin Enrique Matias, 18, of 2457 Crystal Lane, Springettsbury Township, are charged with robbery causing seriously bodily injury, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct, according to court documents. Davila also was charged with prohibited possession of a firearm, according to charging documents.
York City Police say that about 6 p.m. Dec. 1, the two approached a man in the area of South George Street and South Street and robbed him at gunpoint, allegedly taking the man's phone and bag from him. During the robbery, police say the man was beaten and suffered serious head lacerations and a concussion.
The two then fled from the scene, according to documents.
About an hour later, Davila and Matias were seen in the area of Kurtz Avenue and Park Lane, police said. The two matched the description of the robbery suspects, according to police.
Officers pursued the men on foot for a short time before taking them into custody, documents state.
Police say during the pursuit, Davila paused in front of 620 S. Pershing Ave. before continuing to flee from officers. Officers retraced Davila's steps and found a Glock .42 semi-automatic handgun between the curb and a parked car in front of that address, according to charging documents. Police say the gun was stolen and that Davila is a felon and not allowed to have a firearm.
While in custody, Matias was found to have the stolen phone on him, police said. Matias told police he was there when the robbery happened but said he did not participate, according to police. He said Davila handed him the phone, documents state.
Davila and Matias remain in York County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 16 at District Judge Ronald J. Haskell Jr.'s office.
It is unclear if either have retained an attorney.
