The sirens surrounding Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station will be tested Wednesday, according to a release from the Exelon Generation. The volume test of the emergency warning sirens is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The emergency warning siren system includes 97 sirens located in the 10-mile radius of the station. The sirens are not to signal an evacuation but to signal a warning to turn on local emergency alert broadcast television or radio stations, according to the release.

Emergency management officials may activate the sirens in the event of any emergency. Wednesday's test is one of two that happen each year, with one in June and the other in December.
