Two men escaped with their lives after being shot Tuesday in York City in separate incidents, police said.

The first attack happened at 4:11 p.m. in the 700 block of School Place, an alley that runs behind the 700 block of West Princess Street, according to Lt. Troy Bankert, who supervises the York City detective bureau.

Blaine Liggins, 25, of York City, suffered more than one gunshot wound to the back while sitting in a vehicle in the block, Bankert said.

The driver of that vehicle immediately drove Liggins to York Hospital, where he underwent surgery before officers had a chance to speak with him, the lieutenant said.

"He's going to survive," Bankert said.

Seven shell casings were recovered at the scene, he said.

Shot four times: About five hours later, at 9:24 p.m., another man was shot, this time in the 700 block of South Duke Street, police said. That's between Jackson Street and East Cottage Place.

Steven Blakely, 23, of York City, was shot four times, Bankert said — in the right arm, the lower left leg, the right thigh and the buttocks.

He ran from the scene and met up with officers nearby, according to the lieutenant. Blakely was then transported to York Hospital.

Blakely said he didn't see the shooter and doesn't know who would want to shoot him, Bankert said.

Fourteen spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, the lieutenant said.

Victims targeted: Neither shooting was random, according to Bankert, who said circumstances of the shootings indicate both men were targeted.

A third shooting was reported about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of East King Street, according to 911 radio transmissions.

But Bankert said there was no victim found. Instead, he said, a vehicle was shot in the 700 block of Edison Street, which is very close to the 800 block of East King Street.
