Officials: Cops shot disturbed man holding bat, ax in home
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — The district attorney is reviewing the police shooting of a mentally disturbed man who authorities say attacked an officer with an ax and baseball bat inside the man’s Pennsylvania home.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jonathan Young remained at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville where his condition isn’t being released.
Police from Scott, South Centre and Briar Creek townships converged on Young’s Columbia County home Sunday afternoon after neighbors saw Young nailing his windows and doors shut and called 911 to report loud noises.
State police say officers forced their way into the home. Inside, they say, Young hit Scott Township Sgt. Joseph Grassley in the head and the officer fired twice, wounding Young. Troopers say Grassley was treated and released for head injuries.
The Columbia County district attorney is investigating the shooting.
