Underground fire reported in York City
STAFF REPORT
York City fire officials dealt with a brief underground fire Sunday afternoon.
York City Fire Chief David Michaels said Met-Ed was working in the area of George Street between Market Street and Philadelphia Street about 7 p.m., and when the workers went to energize a line, pressure built up underground and caused manhole covers to blow off.
There was a small fire involving Met-Ed's electrical equipment, Michaels said, but that was easily put out using a fire extinguisher.
No power outages resulted from the activity, Michaels said.
