Three adults and one child were displaced because of a fire in Lower Windsor Township on Sunday afternoon, according to fire officials.

The fire in the 500 block of Bull Road was called in about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to York County 911.

Craley Fire Co. Deputy Chief Casey Smith said seven fire companies assisted with the fire. He said the fire was accidental, but the cause is under investigation.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for several miles, Smith said. The fire started outside and spread to the house, he said.

The deputy chief said the fire damaged about a third of the home, but the damage looked repairable. He did not have a damage estimate at the time.

"The structure isn't too bad," he said, adding that the damage was mostly on the outside.

The fire was under control quickly, Smith said. Still, fire officials stayed on scene for more than two hours clearing the area.

No injuries were reported.

Smith said one resident was in the home during the fire, and a neighbor saw the fire. He said the neighbor went to the house and let the resident know the home was ablaze.

Neighbor Mary Grieger said she and her husband were driving by the house and saw the fire. Her husband called 911, and the firefighters were there quickly, she said.

"At first I thought it was a burn barrel," Grieger said.

"I saw the house catching a bit," she said. "I thought, 'The house is catching on fire, oh my God.'"

Neighbor Penny Webb said she saw the fire as she was raking near her home.

"We look out here, you see smoke coming," she said. She said she saw "big flames" coming out of the home.

Webb said the whole back part of the house was on fire. She said she thought there was a dog in the home, and she was concerned.

"I assume they got that dog out," she said. Smith said there were no reported pet injuries.

The Red Cross is helping those displaced in the fire.
