PITTSBURGH — A 75-year-old woman has been seriously injured by her grandson’s pit bull and a Pittsburgh police officer called to help was bitten by the dog, too.

Police didn’t immediately release the name of the woman who was bitten several times by the dog or the officer. The woman was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in serious condition after the attack early Sunday afternoon.

Police and paramedics responded and were attending to the victim when the dog escaped the back yard, ran onto the home’s front porch and bit the woman again after the dog’s owner couldn’t control it.

Officers eventually used a collared stick to control the dog and remove it from the scene.

It was not immediately clear whether the dog’s owner might face criminal charges or citations.
