Coroner: Manchester man killed in motorcycle crash
A Manchester Township man was killed Monday night when his motorcycle crashed into a car at the intersection of Route 30 and Roosevelt Avenue.
Christopher Rizzuto, 20, of Willow Ridge Drive, died at 10:12 p.m. while being rushed to York Hospital by ambulance, according to the York County Coroner's Office, which said he died of multiple injuries. No autopsy is planned, and his death has been ruled accidental.
Rizzuto was eastbound on Route 30 about 9:40 p.m. when he ran a red light and crashed into the passenger side of a car, according to West Manchester Township Police Officer David Coates.
He was thrown from the motorcycle and ended up 135 feet from where the crash happened, Coates said.
The motorcycle Rizzuto was riding struck the area around the car's front passenger wheel, the officer said.
The woman who was driving the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle, according to Coates.
She had a green arrow and was turning left to go south on Roosevelt Avenue, he said.
Witnesses have reported the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and went through a solid red light, Coates said.
Rizzuto was wearing a helmet, according to the coroner's office.
Route 30 and Roosevelt Avenue were closed in the area of the crash for three or 3½ hours, according to Coates.
West Manchester Township firefighters and fire police assisted at the scene, he said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Coates or Officer Justin Hobbs at (717) 792-9514.
