Two suspected child molesters arrested
Two men suspected of molesting children in York County were arrested last week, according to a release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Zachary Smith, 41, of Mechanicsburg, and Christopher Martin, 29, of York, were arrested by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force on Friday, the release states.
On Sept. 26, Newberry Township Police obtained an arrest warrant charging Smith with attempted statutory sexual assault, attempted indecent sexual intercourse with a person less than 16, aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 16, corruption of minors and drug possession, according to police. Authorities allege that on July 12, 2015, Smith physically assaulted and restrained his victim while he committed sexual acts, according to the release.
On Friday, Smith was arrested without incident in the 100 block of Winston Drive, Mechanicsburg, and was then handed to local authorities. Smith was remanded to York County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail, according to online court records.
Also on Sept. 26, York Area Regional Police obtained a warrant charging Martin with indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and corruption of minors, the release states. Police say Martin touched his victim inappropriately on multiple occasions. Martin was located in the area of East Market Street in York City on Friday and was arrested without incident. He was remanded to York County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail, a prison official confirmed Sunday.
