Police investigating an early morning burglary at a Springettsbury Township jeweler say the burglar must have moved pretty quickly to get away, as a patrol unit was in the area and responded as soon as an alarm sounded inside the store.

The incident took place at 2:26 a.m. Monday at the Futer Bros. Jewelers fine jewelry store at 2820 Whiteford Road.

Sgt. Stefan Kochansky said the department has received security camera footage and is trying to identify the thief. Stills from the footage will not be released for investigative reasons, he said.

"Whoever was in there was in and out pretty quick," Kochansky said. "We had an officer nearby on patrol."

According to a news release, the burglar forced entry through the front door of the business.

The officer responded quickly, but when he arrived the burglar was already gone. Store employees are still inventorying merchandise to determine what is missing. So far, it is undetermined how much the thief was able to take or what value the jewelry he did make off with might hold.

"It wasn't a whole lot," Kochansky said.

No clothing description was available. Kochansky said once security camera footage is reviewed, a description of the burglar will be put out and community assistance will be requested in identifying the person.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary is asked to contact the Springettsbury Police Department at (717) 757-3525, or call Crime Stoppers at (717) 755-TIPS. Information leading to an arrest and conviction can be eligible for a cash reward.
