I-83 reopens after multivehicle wreck

Officials working an accident scene on Interstate 83 reopened southbound lanes of travel Sunday afternoon after a more than three-hour closure following a multivehicle wreck.

York County 911 confirmed at about 1 p.m. that a several-car pile up had both southbound lanes of I-83 blocked near mile marker 30. The interstate was closed as far as Exit 32 near Newberrytown, according to www.511PA.com.

Traffic cameras showed traffic backed up for miles as a result of the crash. It was not yet clear how many injuries were reported, but none were severe, according to the 911 center.

According to officials, the number of cars involved was not readily available. Heavy rain moved through the area from about noon to 1 p.m., causing multiple vehicle wrecks throughout the county.
