Roadwork to cause detours around Queen Street exit

Roadwork will close ramps at the Queen Street exit of Interstate 83 next week, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Work that's part of a broader $3.1 million resurfacing project for that area of South Queen Street, which is Route 74, will cause nighttime closures of a different ramp each night on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, according to a PennDOT news release.

On Tuesday, the ramps from Queen to I-83 southbound will close from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. That ramp is technically called the H/H spur.

Crews will begin preparations for repairs and repaving on Route 74 starting July 18.

The next night during the same time period, Ramp G, which is from I-83 southbound onto the southbound lanes of Queen Street, will be closed for work.

And then during those same times on Thursday, the ramp onto I-83 northbound, called the E/E spur, will be closed as crews work on it.

Road crews will replace some of the curbs on the ramps, according to PennDOT. Workers will resurface the ramps at some point in the next few months, causing more closures, according to PennDOT spokesman Mike Crochunis.

He said traffic passing through the area on the highway won't be affected, but there could be lane restrictions and alternating-lane traffic along Queen Street near the interchange.
