Police: Former gymnastics instructor molested girl in York
- Police in Montgomery County allege Daniel Erb molested a girl in 3 counties, including York County.
- Erb remains locked up on more than a half-million dollars bail.
- It's not yet known whether police in York County are investigating Erb.
A former York-area gymnastics instructor accused in Montgomery County of sexually assaulting a girl for more than three years committed some of that molestation in York County, according to allegations in charging documents.
Daniel Jacob Erb, 33, of Hatboro, Montgomery County, remains in prison at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on a total of $525,000 bail.
Before moving to the Hatboro area, Erb worked as an instructor at Gymnastics of York, according to a statement on the company's Facebook page, which says he left the position more than a year ago.
The allegations: Upper Moreland Township Police said a woman came to them Aug. 2 and reported that Erb sexually assaulted her daughter from the time the girl was 8 until she was 11, according to charging documents.
Erb was acquainted with the girl through her mother and not through his work, documents reveal.
Police spoke with Erb — who allegedly admitted he repeatedly touched the girl's genitals over a several-year period — and he said it started when he was living in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, and continued after he moved to York County, where he lived in two different homes, charging documents allege. Erb moved to Montgomery County a year ago, police said.
"Daniel Erb said he knew what he was doing was wrong and does not know why he continued to do it for in excess of three years," documents state. "He said it was like a game of 'Am I going to get caught?'"
The girl maintains that Erb also performed oral sex on her, documents allege.
Police said they found several text messages between Erb and the girl, according to documents.
At the time of his arrest, Erb was working at Tumble Kids Gymnastics in Wyndmoor, Montgomery County, police said.
Local investigations? It's unclear whether police in York County are investigating Erb.
Kyle King, spokesman for the York County District Attorney's Office, said Monday in a text, "It is not the policy of the District Attorney's Office to confirm or deny whether or not there is an investigation unless or until criminal charges are filed."
Later Monday afternoon he wrote, "Our office is currently working with Montgomery County in order to ensure a positive resolution is achieved in this matter."
Erb is charged in Montgomery County with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and multiple counts of child endangerment, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault and corruption of a minor. Upper Moreland police filed two sets of charges against him, which cover all of their allegations.
Public court records don't list a defense attorney for Erb.
