Burn bans in effect throughout York County

The sweltering heat has prompted burn bans throughout York County.

Manchester, Mount Wolf, North York and Shrewsbury boroughs and Conewago, East Manchester, North Codorus, Springfield, West Manchester and York townships have all declared burn bans.

Additionally, a burn ban will be in effect in Dover Township starting 5 a.m. Saturday.

Burn bans prohibit people from having an open fire on any property within their municipality.

The combination of extreme heat and lack of substantial rainfall has created a potential for dangerous fires in woodlands and fields, according to a release from Lower Windsor Township.
