A single-vehicle wreck on Carlisle Road, south of Winding Road, took out a utility pole Sunday afternnon, causing a transformer to blow up. The crash left several area residents without power and knocked out the traffic lights at Sunset and Brougher lanes, police said.

The wreck took place about 3:30 p.m., forcing both north and southbound traffic to be diverted.

West Manchester Township Police Officer Adam Jordan said the driver of a blue minivan was headed south on Carlisle when she lost control, veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver, an older woman whose name was not released at the time of this report, suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment.

"Just bumps and bruises," Jordan said of the woman's injuries.

Met-Ed officials responded, along with police, fire and rescue. At least one power line was down in the road on Carlisle, and another set of lines sagged into the front yard of a nearby residence.

"The lines are not the issue, but the pole," Jordan said. He explained that houses along Carlisle were without power and that some of the traffic lights on roads intersecting with Carlisle Road were out. The traffic signals were back up and running in about an hour.
