They might not be Batman or Black Widow, but there are everyday heroes in York County the American Red Cross wants to recognize, and the organization need your help finding them.

Busy schedules over the holidays led to a sharp drop in donations of blood and platelets, according to the American Red Cross.

The Red Cross South Central Pennsylvania Chapter is looking for nominations for its annual Spirit of the Heroes Award Breakfast, which will be held on Nov. 17 in York. Nominees should be someone who has performed an amazing act of courage, someone who has dedicated hours to a special cause or someone who went above and beyond their normal duties to make a difference in the community.

Nominations can be made until Aug. 22 in 10 different categories. Those categories are: animal rescue, adult and youth good Samaritans, law enforcement, military, 911 dispatcher, firefighter, medical professional, aquatics and community impact.

To be considered, nominees must meet the following criteria:

• Nominees must live in or have performed the heroic act in York, Adams, Franklin or Fulton counties

• Heroic act must be ongoing or have been performed between August 18, 2015 and August 18, 2016

• Nominees must be available for videotaped interviews in September

• Nominees must be available to attend the Spirit of the Hero Breakfast on Nov. 17.

Nomination forms can be downloaded online or by contacting Ashley Martz at 717-771-3572 or ashley.martz@redcross.org.
