Police: Man denied abuse until it showed on victim’s phone

SCRANTON — Police say a Pennsylvania man swore on his mother’s grave that he didn’t molest a young girl, until they showed him video of some of the acts recorded on the alleged victim’s cellphone.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune reports 76-year-old Byron Webb Jr. has been jailed on charges including child rape for an estimated 200 incidents involving the girl over the last three years. She was 9 when the alleged abuse began.

The girl’s family found the videos on her phone and contacted police. When they interviewed the Scranton man Monday night he denied molesting the girl, until they showed him the videos.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Webb, who faces a preliminary hearing June 27. He’s in the Lackawanna County jail.
