With a few weeks on the job already under his belt, York Area United Fire and Rescue's Chief Daniel Hoff was officially sworn in to the job Tuesday night.

YAUFR Fire Commission vice-chairman Austin Hunt swore Hoff in as the department's new fire chief  during a meeting at Station 891 at 50 Commons Drive in Springettsbury Township..

New chief:  After the chief was sworn in, the fire commission meeting took a brief break before going into its business meeting. During the break, Hoff posed for pictures with his family, friends and colleagues.

"I'm extremely excited," Hoff said about the new job.

Hoff has been in fire service in York County for more than 30 years. He was a captain with the Springettsbury Fire Co. before it became part of YAUFR, and he remained a captain after the merger before becoming a battalion chief.

Hoff has been fire chief since June 1, after previous YAUFR Chief Robert McCoy retired.

The new chief took the time to thank his battalion chiefs after being sworn in, saying they help him do his job.

"These guys are the reason I'm able to stand up here today," he said.

Hoff also commended his predecessor during the break.

"Chief McCoy was just an incredible mentor," Hoff said.

As chief, Hoff said he is not planning to change much from how McCoy left it.

"I think our direction stays true," he said.

Five other men with the department were sworn into new positions that night as well. Battalion Chief Matthew Arnold, Capts. Kristopher Shearer and Kevin Krout, and firefighters Michael Rhoads and Nicholas Willcox were all sworn in to their new positions.
