State police say a Felton man failed to stop for them, fled his vehicle on foot, and left behind his 8-year-old son in the car.

Travis Leroy Stein, 27, of 75 Hemlock Drive, Felton, faces charges of endangering child welfare and fleeing or attempting to elude police in addition to summary traffic charges, according to documents. The charges were filed Thursday, and as of Thursday afternoon, Stein had yet to be arraigned on them, according to online court records.

Police say about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday they saw Stein driving past with a suspended registration on West Broadway in Red Lion. When police turned on lights and sirens to pull him over, he began to flee, documents state.

"There were numerous opportunities where the defendant could have stopped his vehicle in a safe manner," the officer wrote in the documents.

Police say the pursuit ended after about 1½ miles, at the intersection of West Maple Street and Kaufman Avenue in Dallastown, where Stein abandoned the car and fled on foot. He allegedly left his son in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

The boy's mother identified Stein to police.
