Police say a York Township man sexually assaulted a girl for years, beginning when she was about 4 and he was about 10.

Anibal Victor Garcia-Rivera, 23, is charged with rape of a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors and statutory sexual assault among other charges, according to documents.

The documents also state the abuse took place at a residence in York City.

York City Police allege Garcia-Rivera admitted to the incidents in January, and Garcia-Rivera said the various acts continued after he turned 18.

According to Lt. Troy Bankert, the victim initially told police of the alleged acts in October 2015, and two months later they were able to interview Garcia-Rivera.

“We have to make sure we have the story right from the victim,” Bankert said.

Bankert said after Garcia-Rivera's interview with them, police spent the next few months investigating the claims before charging him.

"There was some additional follow-up to secure probable cause," he said.

Garcia-Rivera was arraigned on Thursday on the charges. He was released on supervised bail, according to Bankert.
