The Harrisburg-area girl who was barred from her school's prom for wearing a tuxedo attended William Penn High School's prom Saturday night.

Aniya Wolf, a junior at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, attended the dance with her date at the Wisehaven Banquet Hall. William Penn Principal Brandon Carter invited her earlier this month after her treatment at her own school's prom was widely reported.

The school would have two tickets with her name on them — for Aniya, who identifies as a lesbian, and a date, Carter said at the time.

Aniya showed up at William Penn's prom in a tuxedo with her date, who wore a blue and silver dress.

Acceptance: Ryandell Simpson was outside the prom, waiting for his daughter, Aryana Simpson, to show up.

Simpson said he did not have a problem with the school inviting Aniya to the prom.

"I just think your choice is your choice," he said of Aniya's decision to wear a tuxedo to prom.

Kim Murray was there watching her daughter, Tori Murray, come to prom. Murray shared a similar sentiment to Simpson's.

"I don't think we should discriminate with things like that," she said. "It's not hurting anyone."

Carter said earlier this month that he's confident his students will welcome her. After all, he said, kids bucking gender norms isn't untreaded ground for William Penn; the school has had girls wear suits and boys wear dresses to prom before without an issue.

"Be accepting; embrace each other," he said. "The world is ever changing."
