Two indicted for allegedly trafficking drugs in York
Two Reading men were indicted by a federal grand jury in Harrisburg Wednesday for allegedly trafficking drugs in York and Berks counties from January until April, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Peter Smith.
Ruben Guadalupe Morales, 25, and Jose G. Avila, 28, are charged in an indictment with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and 280 grams of crack cocaine, according to the release. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Avila is also charged with possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Both were arrested and accused of possessing with intent to distribute cocaine on April 27, the release states. The indictment also seeks forfeiture of the roughly $137,000 seized by law enforcement during the investigation.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the York City Police Department, according to the release.
If the two are convicted, they face a maximum sentence of life in prison, a $10 million fine and a lifetime of supervised release. Avila could also receive a five-year minimum sentence for the firearms charge, which must be served consecutive to any other sentence, according to the release.
