A fire in a row home in York City displaced eight people on Tuesday night, according to the York City Fire Department.

Chief David Michael said the fire was contained to the third floor of a row home on the 200 block of East Poplar Street. His department was dispatched to the scene around 6 p.m. and was able to knock down the flames in about 10 minutes.

Michaels did not know if any children were among the eight displaced, but he said the American Red Cross is helping them.

The cause of the fire was being investigated Wednesday morning, but Michaels said nothing appears suspicious.

Damage estimates totaled $20,000, he added.
